11/16/2016 – Laguna Atascosa NWR
Oh my – the normal road into this NWR is under construction. Nothing says how bad the detour road is. It’s terrible. But I got there and learned once there that the longer (16 mile) drive is closed to vehicles. You have to take their shuttle. Of course, I was there on a day the shuttle wasn’t running. So, I didn’t get off to a great start. Did I have a good time, yes. I will go back, but hopefully after the road in is complete. And I’ll make sure the shuttle is running and purchase an advance ticket if necessary.

The drive to the Osprey Overlook was open.

Alligator facing …
Great Blue looking back
Other ducks keeping an eye out.
Blue Winged Teal
The ducks don’t seem to feel any danger.
Hmmm, look what’s under this sign …

On the drive home through San Benito I took a picture of the Water Tower with Freddy Fender commemorated.
My next post won’t have to do with birding! But birds are the reason many come to south Texas and I certainly understand why!
