3/26/12 Marfa Viewing Area

I headed to the Marfa Viewing area to see the lights and spend the night.

The vastness - land and sky for miles and miles.

I can’t explain the lights of Marfa. But I saw them last night. Amazing. Eerie. And, yes, they do occur. If you don’t know about it – look it up on the internet. There’s no way to take pictures. It’s simply something you have to experience.

There are several informative plaques there – and I took pics – so you can read them – basically about the history of Marfa, and one about the lights.

The fun thing – when dusk came I was one of three vehicles here. Within 10 minutes at least another dozen showed up and more kept coming. People brought entire families and chairs to go sit under the starlight to watch. I was situated so that I could lay in my bed and watch out my bedroom window. I actually, after a couple hours, fell asleep while the lights were still happening. Woke up later and didn’t see any more lights and everyone had left. Next thing I knew, morning had come and it was time to move on down.

Next up – Davis Mountains State Park and the environs.
